Bio

GardensBorn in Chapin, South Carolina, Jenna Estes was always encouraged to be creative during her childhood. She learned to draw from her father, sew from her mother, and crochet from her maternal grandmother. She enjoyed taking painting and drawing classes through the Chapin Library during her primary years.

During high school, Jenna designed t-shirts and theatrical backdrops for her drama class. After high school, Jenna earned a Minor in Art at Columbia College in 2000 under the watchful eyes of her professors, Stephen Nevitt and Mary Gilkerson. While involved in other graduate studies at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina from 2000 to 2004, Jenna became more inspired by the beauty of her surroundings and studied privately under the Charleston multi-media artist, Paul Silva. In 2009, she married Merrick Estes and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she expanded her skill-set by studying mosaic artistry under Pam Goode, with the Ciel Gallery + Mosaic Studio, and Sophie Drouin, from Ontario, Canada— both Italian-trained mosaic artists. She also studied drawing and perspective under Tina Alberni, acclaimed mixed-media artist, during her time in Charlotte.

In 2011, she and her husband briefly returned to South Carolina and settled in Columbia, where Jenna had the opportunity to study oil painting with low-country artist, Van Martin, in addition to internationally known painter, Michael Story. During this time, she was fortunate to revisit oil-painting instruction under her former college professor, Ms. Gilkerson.

Jenna and Merrick joyfully welcomed their first child in early 2013 and moved to Fort Mill, South Carolina. Her recent studies have included private oil painting Karen Hagan in Charleston, as well as independent study of charcoal drawing. While Jenna continues to enjoy learning more about different mediums, she currently specializes in colored pencil and charcoal drawings.
